Hydraulic Cylinder Measurement & Spec Sheet Tool

Record the measurements and identification details needed to compare a hydraulic cylinder, request repair, or look for a replacement. The tool generates a clean specification sheet you can copy, print, download, or send with a repair enquiry.

Hydraulic Cylinder Specification Sheet

Enter the cylinder details above and select Generate Spec Sheet.

Safety: Make the machine safe before taking measurements. Relieve hydraulic pressure and mechanically support raised equipment according to the manufacturer’s procedures. Do not work around unsupported booms, buckets, loader arms, dump bodies, platforms, or attachments.

How to Measure a Hydraulic Cylinder

For replacement or repair identification, use the same reference points for every length measurement. On pin-mounted cylinders, pin-center to pin-center measurements are usually the most useful. Record both retracted and extended length when practical, along with the stroke, rod diameter, mount dimensions, pin or hole sizes, and port information.

Bore Diameter

The bore is the inside diameter of the cylinder barrel. It cannot always be measured accurately from the outside. Use the cylinder specification, part number, manufacturer information, or an internal measurement during disassembly when available.

Rod Diameter

Measure the piston rod across its outside diameter on a clean, undamaged section. Avoid measuring over heavy corrosion, plating damage, or deformation.

Stroke Length

Stroke is the distance the rod travels from fully retracted to fully extended. When the same external reference points are used, extended length minus retracted length should generally correspond to stroke.

Measurements to Record for a Replacement Cylinder

  • Bore diameter
  • Rod diameter
  • Stroke length
  • Retracted length
  • Extended length
  • Base-end and rod-end mount style
  • Pin or mounting-hole diameters
  • Mount widths and clearances where relevant
  • Port thread, size, position, and orientation
  • Cylinder manufacturer and part number
  • Equipment make, model, and cylinder function

Use the Spec Sheet for Repair or Replacement

A complete measurement sheet makes it easier to compare a replacement cylinder and gives a repair provider useful information before the cylinder arrives. Photos of the complete cylinder, identification markings, mounts, ports, rod condition, and visible damage are also valuable.

If you also need force, oil volume, speed, or cycle-time calculations, use the hydraulic cylinder calculator.

Send Your Cylinder Details

  1. Send the equipment and cylinder details, symptoms, and photos.
  2. The request is evaluated for the likely repair path and fit.
  3. An independent hydraulic repair provider serving the Denver area may respond to confirm pricing, turnaround, and next steps.

Fields marked (required) are needed to send the request. Everything else helps but is optional.

Your contact details

A repair provider may use this to follow up about your request.

Denver is the primary focus. Nearby Denver-metro requests are evaluated based on the job, transportation needs, and provider coverage.

Equipment and cylinder

Include the serial number if available.

If available. Check the identification tag or stamped number. If there is no readable tag, photos and measurements can still help.

What the cylinder is doing
What problem are you having?
Is the cylinder already removed? (required)

No need to remove it first. An initial request can be made while the cylinder is still installed.

Approximate cylinder dimensions (if known)Optional

Take photos and measurements only with the equipment secured and pressure relieved. Do not place hands near a suspected high-pressure leak.

Approximate cylinder dimensions

Approximate is fine. Fractions such as 3 1/2 are OK. If you do not have measurements, photos and the identification tag or stamped number can still help.

Timing
Your timing or equipment-downtime requirements

Timing and turnaround are confirmed by the provider handling the job.

Photos

Clear photos of the complete cylinder and any visible damage. Up to 8 photos in total: JPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC, up to 10 MB each and 40 MB altogether.

  • Take photos and measurements only with the equipment secured and pressure relieved. Do not place hands near a suspected high-pressure leak.
  • Images may contain metadata such as device or location information. If that information is sensitive, remove it before sending the files.
